not a water thermometer,

The first product received was defective. I received a second thermometer. This worked for ambient temp. measurement but when the probe was placed in water it showed very high temps.
I was informed by the supplier that although labeled as a water thermometer it was not to be used in water. I have returned both instruments and am awaiting refund.
