Talking Food Thermometer for Cooking, BBQ, Meat, Household or Science

      Product Description

Not a novelty! This is a serious measurement tool that reads temperature with extreme speed and speaks the reading at the touch of its single large button. Other low-cost talking thermometers are made by companies that produce talking novelty items. They are cheaply made, very slow and not at all accurate. This thermometer was designed to our specification and is produced in a thermometer factory where each unit receives proper quality control and testing. ThermoWorks Super-Fast technology is employed in the reduced-tip probe for readings in only 5 or 6 seconds.* Turn the thermometer on, Insert the probe tip in a food portion or liquid, wait just a few seconds, then press the button to hear the temperature in a clear female voice. A recessed button on the back will change the scale from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Use the built-in eyelet at the top to hang the thermometer within easy reach where you normally use it. The thermometer body is contoured to comfortably fit the palm of your hand.

Suitable for the sight impaired with partial or full vision loss. For the sighted, the large 3/8" digits are easier-to-read. Even those that can see the display need not take their eyes off other tasks if they can simply push the Talk button to tell them the temperature. Press it again and again to update the status of changing temperatures. The ThermoWorks Talking Thermometer is a tremendous aid in food preparation, general household use or even scientific and industrial applications.

*Speed is measured as the time it takes to reach within 1 degree of the final temperature. Final tenths of a degree may continue to stabilize over the next 3 or 4 seconds.

      • Press the button, it says the temperature!
      • Great for sight-impaired or multi-taskers
      • Super-fast reduced tip reads in about 5-6 seconds
      • Big LCD Digits with 0.1 degree resolution
      • Range: -58 to 572 degrees F (-50 to 300 degrees C)

I can see ok although I use reading glasses. The digits on this thermometer are biggish and easy to read. What is really cool though is the voice feature. I can pay more attention to the grill and hear the temperature without even looking at the thermometer. I have lots of thermometers and do a lot of cooking. I am way impressed with how fast this thing is. The tip is also small and doesn't make a big hole in the meat. I would say this is professional quality and performance. I only got it yesterday so I don't have a long term reliability opinion yet other than it's nicely made and looks like it will survive just fine. If it fails prematurely I'll write a follow-up. So far I am very happy with it and I've been playing with it constantly.

I got the talking food thermometer because I'm not always wearing reading glasses while cooking. In fact, the display is not hard to read, but hearing the temperature is a bonus. Great product, and I recommend it. However, I was a bit confused about how to open the battery storage, and the batteries that came with the product had to be replaced before first use.

My wife cleans our apartment and I do the cooking. From time to time I volunteer to help cook for events at my workplace. Now that my 60th year has come and gone I find it harder to see. I can not read the round top traditional chef's thermometers any more and decided to look for a talking thermometer. This thermometer solved the problem! It is fast and accurate. The speech is clear and convenient to activate. It is a great thermometer for anyone but especially good for those with poor vision.

This is the way to go. Perfect results every time. No more wondering if it's done. Whether you BBQ or smoke steak, hamburgers, chicken, veal, turkeys, pork - know when the right temperature has been reached each and every time. One MAJOR tip - the main unit and the probe both require to be RESET before the first use in order to sync up both signal and reception. The reset button is located inside each device's battery compartment. If your unit doesn't work right out of the box, then this is most likely the reason. With both units on, press the reset button.

I like OS products, especially their weather stations, which I use. But I cannot recommend these grill thermometers. I threw both in the trash after they gave bizzare readings. Today, I was set to grill a prime rib roast....the OS probe (the one I had NOT thrown away because of the same problem) registered 199 degrees out of the refrigerator.

I compared to my Maverick thermometer, bought also on Amazon. It registered the correct 52 degrees.

I covet my meats done to perfection, and so far OS has not done the job. The Maverick dual senor thermometer has performed very well in my Weber grill and my Charbroil fryer. And yes, I know how to use digital, remote thermometers....lol.

For my money, try the Maverick.....good performer and does not give you wacko temp readings like BOTH of my OS did.

I purchased this product because we have a four-story house and I did not want to be stuck near the kitchen to hear the temperature gauge sound. The range on this product is exceptional. Being three floors away from the base unit was not too far for the receiving sensor; it still functioned as it was designed. I have also been outside the house in the yard and the sensor still worked appropriately.

I use this product mostly in the oven. If takes the guess work out of large cuts of meat. The beef temperature that is preset is too high for my taste. But, I know this and just monitor the temperature and know that the alarm will not sound until the meat is overcooked, in my opinion.

As one of the other viewers indicated you do have to "synchronize" the base and receiving until by pressing the reset button on both items after installing the batteries and turning both products on. Check the directions, they spell out the process.

The belt clip and/or... Read more

Before giving up on your wireless thermometer, try replacing the probe! I'm on my third probe now, which is frustrating, but these things are only $15 bucks. A new 'Grill Alert' is $70! Each probe that I've had seems to last a few years before I start getting screwy readings. When I replace the probe, the unit works fine again. I think the probes are only rated to 400 degrees, so that's definitely the weak link in this otherwise excellent system. Now I'm ordering two probes, just so that I can have a spare ready to go.

This review is from: Replacement Probe for Grill Alert (Misc.)
The probe has a braided metal outer jacket on the cable that causes any flexing of the cable to strain the cable where it exits the probe. This condition causes failure (shorting of the sensor wires to the jacket) at that point. I have had 2 other probes with this type of cable that failed in that mode. The best type of cable is a thick silicone jacket like used on microwave temp probes.

My thermometer kept losing the signal during cooking. After replacing the batteries several times, I started shopping for a new one. That's when I stumbled onto this replacement probe. It works perfectly and seems to be a little sturdier and better built than the original. The cord is a couple of inches shorter than the original which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. Delivery was lightning fast. I needed this for my Thanksgiving turkey but forgot to order until the Sunday before. It was delivered on Tuesday!
