ThermoPet Dog Thermometer

Product Description

ThermoPet Dog Thermometer with talking results. The easiest way to take your dog's temperature. No more invasive probes!

Like humans, dogs can also suffer from fever. In fact, a fever is often considered the first indicator for most diseases affecting dogs. If the fever is undetected, and left untreated, it can lead to serious health consequences.

Some people have tried to use the human ear thermometers on their dogs, but they will not produce reliable readings, due to the way they are calibrated and the different shapes of the ear canal of a dog. Ear thermometers for dogs are invasive and difficult to use at best - and very expensive at worst.

The only conventional way to assess fever in a dog has been by using a rectal thermometer. But this invasive procedure usually takes two people - one to restrain the pet, and the other to insert and hold the thermometer in place long enough to obtain an accurate reading.

This has all changed with the introduction of the ThermoPet Non-Contact Thermometer for Dogs!

This device provides you with a non-invasive way to take your dog's temperature - quickly and accurately - without laying a hand on your pet! Ease of Use...Peace of Mind...

5.0 out of 5 stars Inguinal & Rectal Temps Matched Exactly - 100.9, April 20, 2011

This review is from: ThermoPet Dog Thermometer (Misc.)
I bought this unit because my dog has Canine Epileptiod Cramping Syndrome (CECS - also known as Spike's Disease). Prolonged cramping can cause high fever which is a medical emergency, so I need a way to safely and accurately check my dog's temperature in the midst of an episode to know when to apply cold packs at home and/or if I need to take him to the vet immediately. I experimented with the four suggested areas of the body and felt that the inguinal was probably closest to being accurate. I brought this unit with me to my last vet appt in order to check it and got an inguinal reading of 100.9 followed by the vet immediately taking a rectal temp, which showed exactly the same reading, so my hunch was confirmed.

If you're not going to check it against a rectal temp, at least get a feeling for what readings are 'normal' for your dog when using this. Be consistent with whatever area you decide to use and check it while at rest and after play. If you do this at random... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Not accurate, August 25, 2010

Compared simultaneously taken rectal temperatures with the temperature taken with this thermometer on several different dogs, there was no correlation. Did a literature search and found no research articles comparing temperatures taken with thermometer to rectal temperatures. I found it pretty useless.

Product works as described; however, the results are far lower than average dog temperators - giving me the impression that the results are not accurate.
